Hinata began playing volleyball after seeing the "small giants" who played the sport when he was in elementary school. He suffers a crushing defeat in his first and last tournament in middle school at the hands of his rival Tobio Kageyama.

Sora Naegino, a young Japanese girl with a great talent for acrobatics, comes to the United States in hopes of auditioning for the Kaleido Stage, a world famous circus which has mesmerized her since childhood. However, she runs into difficulties as soon as she arrives.

When Takeshi Tatsumi left East Tokyo United, the team went into freefall and were eventually relegated from the top Japanese soccer league, resulting in a succession of coaches and player sales that have the team's fans ready to snap. Several years later, Takeshi returns to coach the team he once played for and save the team from further humiliation.

The series is primarily set in Tokyo, and centers around Ryoma Echizen, a tennis prodigy who attends Seishun Academy , or Seigaku for short, a private school famous for its strong tennis club and talented players. Ryoma quickly defeats numerous upperclassmen shortly after entrance to secure himself a spot as one of the team's regulars.

Honda Shigeharu is a Major League batter on the rise. His son Goro is a Little League pitcher who one day hopes to follow in his father's footsteps.

Aika is a smart and athletic high school girl. She is so competent that she successfully es the salvager's license test, obtaining a C-class license.

Toraji Ishida is a high school kendo teacher. His friend and fellow kendo teacher makes him a bet: if Ishida can assemble a girl's kendo team that can defeat his girl's team in a practice match, he'll treat Ishida to free meals at his father's Sushi restaurant for an entire year.

The main character, Endou Mamoru, is a very talented goalkeeper and the grandson of one of the most famous and skilled goalkeepers in Japan, who died before he was born. Even though his skills are incredible his school lacks a real soccer club as the 6 other don't appear very interested even in training.

Kakeru Aizawa is the younger brother to Suguru Aizawa, a football prodigy belonging to Japan's under–15 national team. Prior to the series, Kakeru quits his position as a forward after a traumatic experience prevented him from playing with his left leg and settles for a managerial position.

After witnessing the “Little Giant” of Karasuno play in a national championships volleyball match, young Hinata Shoyo instantly gets inspired and decides to revive his school’s volleyball club. Although managing to force some of his friends to his team and even participate in a tournament against other schools, Hinata’s inexperienced team terribly loses their first game against the prodigal “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama.

After the last swimming meet, the bonds of friendship have only gotten stronger, and with each ing day these boys continue to grow. This season brings new rivals and new challenges.
